Sanriku Geinoh Discovery Summit

A festival that brings together the folk Geinoh of Sanriku and Taiwan in a circuitous manner

Thirteen Geinoh groups from Sanriku and Japan will gather in Hachinohe! In addition to performances by Geinoh groups from Sanriku, there will be an exhibition of floats from the Hachinohe Sansha Festival (Grand festival of three shrines in Hachinohe), a workshop for making headdresses, and a Bon dance and DJ time in the evening on Sunday, December 13. On Sunday the 13th, there will be performances by performing arts groups and the main performance by the “Golden Lion Team of Chaoxing Shrine, Honyuanliao, Annan District, Tainan City. There will also be food and craft stores. Please enjoy the colorful Geinoh with us.

The eve festival

Geinoh eve event at Yoko-cho!

There will be performance by Shiragi-Shitogongen Kagura(Hachinohe City) around Miroku-Yokocho.

Please come and get bitten by Gongen-sama (a lion figure Buddhist god). You can enjoy watching them perform while you are having foods at store as well.

*Free admission (donations to the performers are welcome!)

Fourteen Geinoh groups from Sanriku and Taiwan will perform over two days on the 12th and 13th. There will also be an introduction time for Geinoh groups from Taiwan.

Program 2: Hachinohe Sansha Festival. Dashi exhibition and Hayashi experience

Dashi of Hachinohe City Sansha Festival (Grand festival of three shrines in Hachinohe) appears in Hachinohe City Hall Annex Plaza. Visitors can experience the Hayashi (musical accompaniment) of the festival.

Program 4: Vivienne Sato’s headdress making workshop

VIVIENNE SATO

Join artist Vivienne Sato, who says, “A headdress reveals a person’s personality and inner self,” for a workshop to create a headdress using a variety of materials. Just as people put their feelings into Geinoh costumes, let’s create your own unique work of art.

Special Program|Photographer, Masaru Tastuki is coming to Hachinohe

~Masaru Tastuki & Vivienne Sato’s Talk Show~

Photographer Masaru Tastuki has been shooting posters for Sanriku International Geinoh Festival since 2014. How do his eyes, which have photographed many of Tohoku’s folklore and nature, perceive the “Sanriku’s local Geinoh”? He will discuss about it with our Sanriku International Geinoh Festival ambassador, Vivienne Sato.

① “Sake tasting and Local Geinoh” at Sake Brewery

When it comes to Geinoh, having Sake is an indispensable part of enjoyment especially “Hakutsuru” and “Nyoku”.

You can enjoy a Sake tasting at the Kaizo・ Hachinohe Sake Brewery. The building of the direct sales office, designated as a cultural asset, is also worth a visit!
