– Summary –

This festival, the most important festival of Kushibiki Hachimangu, takes place for three days every fall. It offers Shinto ritual martial arts, Kyudo (Japanese archery) tournament, boys sumo matches and literary competition, as well as Engei (Japanese traditional entertainment) and Hounou (dedication) rituals. It attracts many people who seek prayer and purification rituals. During the festival, a Hachinohe local toy horse called Yawata-uma is sold at the shrine. Hachimangu, including Gohonden designated by Japan government as an Important Cultural
Property is itself cultural assets. On September 21, after Annual Festival(Reitaisai) starting at 13:00, horseback archery, a Shinto ritual martial art, will be dedicated to the shrine. Starting at 14:00, Yasawa Daibutsu Kagura, Hachinohehanden Shinto Munen-ryu Iai, Nanbu Teodori and Minyo
(folk music) will be performed on the special event stage.
