Kozuchi Shrine, in the town of Otsuchi, where we arrived in the middle of the rain. From the elevated grounds of the shrine, we could see the wide, open land and the buildings dotting the landscape.

He met us with a calm expression, and it had the feeling of visiting a grandfather in the countryside. While eating their Kama Mochi, a family secret made by their grandmother, we asked about the history of Kagura.
We heard many important things, which even Ms. Ota had never heard before, about how Kagura had continued its long journey for the purpose of door-to-door entertainment until around the Showa period (1926- 1989), or the sayings about the mask here.

After we heard plenty of his stories, we hurriedly moved onto the gathering place, the usual place for practicing Torikomai.
Ms. Ota and others the same age as her, as well as high school students, taught us the Torikomai.
First, starting with its performance.
The speed is surprisingly fast! Furthermore, the arm movements and whatnot are quite skillful!

It’s easy to watch but difficult to do. While making your left and right arms do completely different movements, your legs also have to be dealt with. The repetition of earnestly watching and doing, watching and doing…

The next day.
This time the elementary school students got together and performed for us.
Whoa, it’s an obvious thing to say, but they have solidly mastered the sound and movement. Furthermore, they have scintillating power of expression! Amazing!
We will learn something from those elementary school students’ teacher.
Just as I thought, it’s all about watching and doing, watching and doing…
It is not learned easily…

But, we are so appreciative that everyone taught us very kindly in an extremely easy-to-understand way.

Afterwards, Cecilia’s community dance workshop was carried out with the children and their guardians, with everyone mixed together.

At the end, they let us put on the costumes and took a picture.
I wonder if we even came close to the Torikomai as done by lovely women… (hahaha)
