Meetings and Preliminary Visits for the Continuation of our Project in Tohoku
今回の滞在中に、次につながるプロジェクトを考えたいと思った。それが古水さんとお話している中で発見することができた。被災地での国際芸術フェスティバルの開催である。
During our residence, I thought that I wanted to consider the following project, which was discovered through talking with Mr. Furumizu; It is holding an international folk performing arts festival in earthquake-affected areas.
古水さんと出会い、話す中で、東北の地域にとって郷土芸能が様々な世代の人々を繋ぐ要であり、精神的な支えとなっていることを痛感した。しかし近年若者が少なくなってきたこと、震災によって後継者が減少していること。復興において郷土芸能がいかに大切か、外から人が郷土芸能を習いに来てくれることがいかに励みになるか、などのお話を伺った。
Through meeting and talking with Mr. Furumizu, I strongly felt that, for regions in Tohoku, local folk performing arts are the key that connects people together from different generations, and it is their spiritual support. However, lately the number of young people has been decreasing, and there has been a reduction in the number of fore-bearers of this art due to the earthquake. I talked with Mr. Furumizu about how precious local folk performing arts are for the recovery of these regions, and how people from outside the regions coming to learn the local folk performing art could be encouraging.
東北の復興を考える上で、郷土芸能が東北の方々にとって大きな精神的支えになるのではないかと思った。あまりにも多くのものを失った被災地において、政治や経済ももちろん必要だが、人々が人間らしく生きること、郷土固有の文化を通じて誇りを取り戻すことは、すべてのことを支えるために不可欠なことだ。
I thought that local folk performing arts would be a large spiritual support for the people of Tohoku, in consideration of the recovery in Tohoku. Of course government and the economy are necessary for these earthquake-affected areas that lost a great deal of things, but I thought that people living like human beings, recovering their pride through locally specific culture is indispensable in order to uphold everything.
国際フェスティバルという形で、世界の中の東北という位置づけで、東北から郷土芸能を発信することは、各地域で大切に受け継がれてきた郷土芸能が日本全国そして海外に認められることに繋がり、そのことは人々に地域に対する愛着や誇りを取り戻し、生きる力を生み出す大きな原動力になるのではと思えた。
Sending out the message from Tohoku about its local folk performing arts, in the form of an international festival with Tohoku positioned as one place in the world, will connect to the domestic and international recognition of the local folk performing arts which have been preciously passed down in each region, and that will lead to the reinstatement of the people’s pride and love in their region, and perhaps that will be a big driving force for producing new power of life.
早速、テクニカルディレクターの關さんに大船渡に来てもらって、大船渡、陸前高田などのフェスティバルが開催できそうなところを一緒に見て回り、どこならば意図するフェスティバルが出来るか、照明や音響、舞台をどのように考えるのが理想的かを話し合った。
I quickly had technical director Mr. Kan come to Ofunato, we looked around at places like Ofunato and Rikuzen Takata where it seems like we could hold a festival, and we talked about where we could do the festival we are intending, and what is the best way to think about the stage, lights and sound.
