気仙沼市唐桑町に滞在。芸能のルーツを訪ねて!?

Staying in the town of Karakuwa in Kesennuma city. Visiting the Roots of Folk Performing Arts!?

岩手県大船渡市から移動して、こちらは宮城県気仙沼市唐桑町。

We moved from Ofunato City in Iwate prefecture to the town of Karakuwa in Kesennuma city, Miyagi prefecture.

あちこちで芸能を習ってきたセシリアも、今までを振り返ったりしながら、自分の時間が持てる、貴重な日々。

For Cecilia, who has learned folk performing arts here and there, these are precious days to have some of her own time to reflect on what has happened until now.
ダンサーの生島翔さんも合流して、しばらく唐桑町の「つなかん」という民宿に滞在しました。

We met up with Dancer Sho Ikushima and stayed for a little bit in an inn called “Tsunakan” in Karakuwa.

つなかんの女将さん「一代さん」はステキな人で、唐桑の芸能のこと、活動している若者のことを教えてもらったり。そして震災後にこの民宿を人のつながりの拠点として、運営していきたい！と活動的。とっても元気をもらいましたー！

Tsunakan’s landlady “Ms. Kazuyo” was a lovely person, and she taught us about folk performing arts in Karakuwa and the young people who perform it. And how they are also working to run their inn as a hub for connections among people since after the earthquake. I really got a lot of encouragement from her!

つなかんで会議中の「からくわ丸」の皆さんと合流。ちょうど、メンバーの加藤さんたちがテレビに出ているということで、一緒に見たり。

We met up with everyone from “Karakuwa—maru” during a meeting at the Tsunakan. Their member Mr. Katou had just been on TV, so we were watching that together.

海まで行って、セシリアと生島さんは自分のダンスを考えたり。
気仙沼リアス・アーク美術館の常設展示「東日本大震災の記録と津波の災害史」を見に行ったり。

We went all the way to the ocean, and Cecilia and Sho were thinking about their dancing and whatnot.
We also went to see “Documentation of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and a Historic Record of Damage from the Tsunami,” a regular exhibit at Kesennuma’s Rias Ark Art Museum.

セシリアと生島さんは唐桑に滞在中、自分たちのダンスについて英語で随分話し込んでいるようでした。

It seemed like, during their stay in Karakuwa, Cecilia and Sho were talking in English quite deeply about their dancing.

最後の日には、つなかんご主人「やすさん」に海に連れて行ってもらい、採れたての牡蠣をいただく。やすさんは、地震の時海に出ていて、海から陸に立ち上がる土煙を見て、沖へと避難したとのこと。何日も陸へ帰れなかったことを話してもらいました。

On the last day, Mr. Yasu, the owner of Tsunakan, took us to the ocean and we ate freshly picked oysters. At the time of the earthquake, Mr. Yasu was going out to sea and saw a cloud of dust rising from the land, and he took refuge out in the sea. He talked about how he couldn’t go back to land for several days.
