Chuson-ji Konjikido is a golden dharma Hall built in the late Heian period (794-1185) inside the Chuson-ji temple site in Hiraizumi-cho, Iwate Prefecture. The Konjikido, which was registered as a World Heritage site in 2011, is said to have been built using gold from the Tamayama gold mine in Rikuzentakada, where we will be visiting in this tour.

What is BRT (Bus Rapid Transit)?
A rapid bus transit system. It was introduced to operate buses serves visiting spots of the tsunami-affected parts of the Kesennuma and Ofunato lines.

A short walk away from the general guardian of the Kesen, Hikami Shrine, you can see the wonderful skills of the Kesen carpenters.
On this day, the Autumn Honmaru Akane Market will be held right next to the station from 3:00 p.m., with food stalls from local stores.
It will also be a great plan to walk around the station instead of visiting Tamayama Kinzan (gold mine).

Tamayama Kinzan
Tamayama Kinzan is one of the first gold mines discovered in Japan. It’s gold is called “Mutsu gold” and it is said that their mining have already begun during the Tenpyo period (1831-1845) producing in gold sand form. It used to be a representative gold mine of the Kesen area with its large scale and large amount of gold production. Thier gold was used to a wold heritage site, Chuson-ji Konjikido (golden hall), and there are numerous history and legends relate to Tamayama Kinzan. In May 2019, Tamayama Kinzan was recognized as a Japanese Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.

Industrial Festival and Geinoh Festival
The Sumita Industrial Festival celebrates the harvest of the year, with many food stalls and local Geinoh performances adding to the festivities.
About 10 minutes from the venue, visitors can visit Amateru Mioya Shrine, which is well known as the land god of Setamai.

Arrival at Rokando (Rokando Cave)
Rokando is a limestone cave, currently open to the public only 880 meters from the entrance to Amano-Iwato Falls, but the cave continues onward to two waterfalls and a deep underground lake whose bottom is still hidden.
Because of its unique location, the cave was used as a filming location for in 1977 horror movie “The Village of Eight Tombs,” where an important scene that unravels the story was shot. The ladder used in the filming still remains today.
