【Sanriku Festival】 Tanohata Village Industrial Festival 2024.10.13 (Sun)

This festival offers a chance to enjoy Omiya Kagura, Katchi Shishiodori, Sugenokubo Shishiodori, and other local Geinoh while eating delicious food from Tanohata village. You can also experience riding on an e-bike (electrically assisted bicycle) down the hill toward the sea.

It is where 22 wooden cabins lays in by the bay. These cabins, called Banya in Japanese, are utilized as a base by local fishermen for preparing to go out fishing and shipping cultivating seaweed. It has gained a reputation as an authentic landscape of a fishing village and was selected as one of the “100 Historical and Cultural Properties of Fishing Villages to be Preserved for the Future” in 2006. This is a spot where visitors can experience salt making, a Banya fisherman’s guide, and Banya cooking.

The breathtaking view from the 200-meter-high cliffs, bizarre rocks and stones, and sea-eroded caves of various sizes stretches for 8 km in Kitayamazaki. Kitayamazaki is a scenic spot that is full of attractions no matter which season you visit. It was rated as a special A-class scenic spot in the “Natural Resources: Coast and Cape” section of the national tourism resource, evaluated at the highest rating by the Japan Transport Public Corporation.
