【Sanriku Festival】Ostuchi Festival 2024.9.20(Fri)-22(Sun)

This is a joint annual festival of Ostuchi Inari Shrine and Koizuchi Shrine. The portable shrines are accompanied by Toramai, Shishiodori, Daikagura, and other local performing arts, as well as Teodori (hand dance), and parade through the town. The procession of the portable shrines across the river, with the pullers dressed in white shouting and working in unison, is a moving and exciting event.

An island in Ostuchi Bay in the town of Ostuchi. It is known as “Hyotanjima” (gourd island). It is a small island with a circumference of approximately 200 meters and is characterized by a gourd shape consisting of two hills, one large and one small. You can walk up to the island. In the island, and there is a lighthouse and Benten Shrine on the island, where a statue of Bensaiten, the guardian god of fishermen, is enshrined.
