Dontoyaki, an event to drive away evil spirits by burning New Year’s decorations, is held to pray for good health and a bountiful harvest.
At the venue, there will be Amazake (Japanese sweet sake), Dangoshiba (sticking rolled mochi on tree branch) making, traditional games, Daikoku-mai (a Geinoh performance), and Namomi taiko performances.
In the evening, “Namomi,” a visiting god who brings a good harvest, good health, and safety in the home, makes the rounds of the houses in the village.

Access model from Tokyo (if you use public transportation, you will need to stay the night before and after the ceremony to watch the event ceremony from 10:00 and ” Namomi” from 17:30)

Roadside Station Noda pa-puru

Roadside Station Noda pa-puru (=purple), which reopened in June 2025 after relocating to a new location just off the Noda Interchange on the Sanriku Coastal Highway, combines a tourist and produce center, direct local goods sales facility, and restaurant under the concept of “a tasteful country life with greenery and the sounds of the sea,” and features a large roof, resembling a Nambu Magari house. In addition to the popular Noda-Shio (salt) soft, visitors can also enjoy breakfast prepared by a farmhouse restaurant on weekday mornings.

Noda Kiln Gallery IZUMITA

Born in Rikuzentakata, Izumida Yukiya began his creative activities in Noda Village in 1995 after studying under Takeyoshi, a potter of Kokuji pottery called Kokuji-yaki with a 200-year history in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture. Since then, he has won numerous awards and prizes, and his works are displayed in art museums.

  • Noda Village Daikokumai Dance Society

    “Daikokumai” is a traditional dance to bring luck in. “It is a traditional dance of “Koshogatu” (first full moon festival) performed in 2022’s “Noda Festival” (the biggest event of Noda Village) and the 5th “Sanriku Coast Local Performing Arts Performance” in 2022 for the first time in three years.

  • Noda Village Namomi Preservation Committee

    “Namomi” was a local festival event in the village committee in the past, but it has been organized by the village preservation committee for over 30 years. Nowadays, it’s a traditional folk dance of “Koshogatu” (first full moon festival) commonly regarded as a kind of education to infant at Noda Village. In 2015, it has been staged at the National Theater.
