【4 Days/3 Nights】Nuture Trip to enjoy Sanriku International Arts Festival Kamaishi Program 2025.10.3 (Fri.)~6 (Mon.)

Sanriku has nurtured a rich artistic tradition, benefiting from the bounty and harshness of both the ocean and the mountains. The Kamaishi Program is an opportunity to see Geinoh performances throughout Sanriku all in one place. Those who will visit from Osaka should definitely stop by the National Museum of Ethnology to experience the culture of Tohoku and other countries, and get into the spirit of Art Festival before heading to Sanriku. On the way to Sanriku, stay overnight in Hanamaki city. The next day, visit the home of folk tales and ghosts,Tono city, before heading to Kamaishi city. On the last day, we will conclude our trip in Kamaishi by learning about the 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster, and then begin our journey home.

Experience the culture of Tohoku at Tono Denshoen Park. Stroll around Kappa Fuchi

At the Tono Denshoen Park, visitors can learn about Oshirasama, a deity that was also worshipped in Sanriku, in addition to seeing a large number of farming tools and daily life tools from that period displayed in the Nanbu Kuriya (a traditional house with a curved roof). Also on the premises is a memorial hall for Kizen Sasaki, the narrator of the folk tale that inspired Kunio Yanagida’s Tales of Tono, as well as a craft center where visitors can try their hand at Sakiori weaving and where folk crafts are available for purchase. Visitors can also listen to folk tales told by storytellers (reservations must be made one week in advance).

Kappa Fuchi, where Kappas are said to exist, is located within a 3-minute bicycle ride from the Genshoen Park, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Tono Monogatari.
