From the Mountains to the Sea, a Journey to Enjoy the Miyako Local Geinoh Festival

Schedule2026.3.6(Fri)-9(Mon) 【3 nights 4 days】
ItineraryTokyo-Miyako-Kuji-Miyako-Morioka
Miyako City, where the Miyako Local Geinoh Festival is held, occupies the largest area in Iwate Prefecture. It has a coastline including Jodogahama beach and vast forests facing the north and east sides of Mt. Hayachine, the sacred mountain from which Yamabushi (mountain hermit) Kagura originates. In the mountainous area, people have long lived in the mountains, making their living as lumberjacks and charcoal burners. From Morioka, take the Yamada Line train and get off at Rikuchu Kawai Station to visit the Miyako Kitakamisanchi Museum of Folklore, which has a large collection of traditional tools used in mountain work. After visiting the museum, we will head to the central Miyako City near the coast. The next day, take a Kotatsu train of the Sanriku Railway to Kuji city with ocean view, stay overnight in Kuji, and return to Miyako the next day to see the Miyako Local Geinoh Festival. After returning to Morioka, we will enjoy cafes and book stores of Morioka for a night before heading home.
