Noda Village, Iwate

Amidst the decline of traditional performing arts such as kagura, a group of young villagers came together in April 1988 to create a new form of local performing art. Since then, they have participated in village festivals, tourism events, and cultural events both within and outside the prefecture.

The name “Namomi” comes from a traditional village event in which people visit each other’s homes during the Little New Year to pray for good health and a bountiful harvest. Although activities were difficult at times due to the earthquake and COVID-19 pandemic, energetic children have joined in, and the group is working hard to pass on the tradition to the next generation, practicing twice a week at the village gymnasium with the goal of playing drums that resonate in the hearts of the audience.
