It is said that this kagura dance has been performed as Yaku Odori since the beginning of the Meiji era as a part of the Yamada Hachimangu Shrine Shinkosai (a Shinto festival where a divine spirit goes on a journey). During the procession of the mikoshi at the annual festival, the path is always purified by the Hachiman Daikagura before the mikoshi is carried through.
