the Cities / Town / Village on the Sanriku Coast
The Sanriku Area boasts a naturally beautiful sawtooth coastline. Since ancient times, local people have lived in a beautiful, rich and harsh natural environment. In their daily lives, they offer prayers to an invisible power with a sense of both gratitude and awe toward nature. These prayers are the seeds that have evolved into Matsuri -festivals- and have given rise to Geinoh -folk performing arts-.
Geinoh is an integral part of their lives.
In its long history, Geinoh has been handed down from generation to generation. Sanriku has as many different Geinoh as there are villages.

特別ではない、普通の平日。地域公民館の中で、長老のお二人が縫い物や道具のお手入れをしています。
乱れたササラを整えたり、ほつれた装束を縫い合わせたり、また、お面に椿油を塗ったり。
「こんなに年いってから縫い物するなんてね、針に糸を通すのも一苦労」
日々のお手入れは、こんな静かな普通の生活で行われます。
前田鹿踊りは350年以上も前に伝わったとされます。
長い歴史の中、このようにして芸能は、地域の中で、普通の日常の中で、人の手を通して受け継がれてきました。
「宿ル」というのは一瞬のできごとではなく、超自然的なことでもなく、
長い歴史をかけて、人から人に伝えられていくもの。
この三陸には、集落の数だけ、歴史があり、文化があります。
