In this festival, 32 groups from both inside and outside Tanohata Village will gather together. Some groups will sell their local specialties, while others will perform their representative local Geinoh.
Thanks to the cooperation and interaction among the four neighboring villages—Fudai, Noda, Kunohe, and Tanohata—there will be local Geinoh performances and strolls featuring products from these villages. In addition, the sister cities Fujisaki (Aomori Prefecture) and Fukaya (Saitama Prefecture) will also run strolls with their local specialties.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of Geinoh performances while tasting delicious local foods. This event will be full of attractions: not only can you join the Tanohata Ondo dance and enjoy various Geinoh performances, but you will also have a chance to win prizes in raffle, including a pair ticket for Hotel Ragaso and a bundle of specialty products from the four villages and the sister cities.

Tanohata Village Folk Museum

The museum exhibits many historical and folkloric materials of Tanohata village, especially those related to the Sankei Uprisings of 1847 and 1853. In his book “Tenno no Seiki (The Emperor’s Century),” the author Jiro Obutsu called the Sanheki Uprising was as major an event as the arrival of the Black Ships in 1853. It was one of the largest peasant revolts in Japan and is said to be the culmination of the peasant revolts in terms of politics, organization, and tactics. In this museum visitors can trace the people’s resistance to oppression.
