Yo Nakamura started contemporary dance while a student at Waseda University. She has presented her work at home and abroad, including at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (Romania) and the celebrations for the Culture City of East Asia initiative (Guangju, South Korea/Yokohama, Japan). She has provided choreography for Nikikai’s production of the opera Giulio Cesare, and for music videos such as “MAGIC” by the rock band sumika. She has also appeared in music videos herself: Hiromi Go’s “Egao ni Kanpai!” and Avril Lavigne’s “Hello Kitty.” She is currently holding dance workshops called “Kayokyoku Switch” around Japan, which involves assuming the character of someone from the lyrics of Japanese pop classics.
Her accolades include the 1st Session Best Award (2012), the Yokohama Dance Collection EX Jury Prize/Sibiu International Theatre Festival Prize (2013), and the 5th Elsur Foundation New Face Award (Contemporary Dance, 2016).
